Saved from the brink of certain death

I spied this old door in the bottom of the hub's trash pile a little while ago and begged him to let me keep it!

Isn't it just perfection??

Our attic, basement, and garage are a treasure-trove of old doors and windows left by previous owners and my husband sometimes doesn't appreciate the - ahem - character that I see in this old stuff!

He just wants to clean up and get rid of it!

But the chippyness and gray patina on this baby just called my name. And I answered.

So I propped it up against our garage, but I think it will have to make it's way into our house soon. It's just too perfect!

Building My Nest

As I said in my post from last week, the nesting bug has officially been kicked into high gear!

The attic has been organized, the office has been cleaned out, the fridge has been emptied and is sparkling (something I should do about once a month, but let's just say, it doesn't happen very often to say the least!), the newborn baby clothing has been washed and is ready to go.

So I'm making some progress! And it's putting my mind at ease for the time being.

I've also been working on adding some more signs to my Etsy shop.

Here are a few...

A cute "Welcome" sign with a bird motif:

Another dark-stained "Welcome" sign:

And a rustic "Hope Trust Believe" sign:

Enjoy your weekend! :)

Wedding Day!

Here are some pictures from my uber-stylish friend Becky's wedding from this past weekend. Isn't she a beauty??

Here are the bangin' shoes she wore, like only Becky can...

Hamming it up with my sister who was the Maid of Honor. They had way too much fun posing for pictures!

The ceremony was so beautiful! It was held outside by a river and under some huge shade trees. Just perfection!

The wedding colors were canary yellow and gray. How cool is that??

Loved that the bridesmaid dresses were from Ann Taylor Loft. Here is the wedding party...

And the cake...

My sister and Becky again...isn't Becky's necklace pretty? She found it on Etsy!

Sigh...it was a beautiful day for a beautiful couple, and I was so privileged to be a part of it! And now they are honeymooning in the south of France.

Double sigh!!!

Nesting

What is it about having a baby that makes me want to clean and organize the entire house from attic to basement?

I lie awake at night thinking about cleaning out my kitchen cabinets and organizing my laundry room and purging the attic.

So dumb.

As if the baby cares whether the house is in tip-top shape. But I care!

Unfortunately, right now life is too busy to spend much time working on the house, so for now I will continue to think about those dumb little things as I prop myself on pillows and try to get comfortable in my bed at night.

On a completely separate note, weddings are in the air for us this weekend! I am coordinating a wedding today for a friend and tomorrow hubs' nephew is getting married.

Two weddings in one weekend = lots of good food, maybe some tears, and some really great times with family and friends!

Wish us luck! And happy weekend everyone! :)

And here's what I've been busy painting - more signs for the Etsy shop!

Here is one that I particularly love. The wood is just amazing - it's an old barnwood plank that I stained dark.

Here is the driftwood "Faith" sign...

And another "Beach" sign:

If you are interested in having a custom sign made for you, just let me know. Keep checking the shop for more updates!

Signs 4 Sale!

I just listed several hand-painted signs for sale in my Etsy shop, so if you are looking for a little something extra to fill your walls, check it out!

Here is the rustic "Nest" sign I painted...

All the signs are made from salvaged barn wood that we (as in hubs) picked up at his parents' farm. I love working with old materials like this! No two pieces of wood are alike and they have so much character!

Here is the "Hotel de Paris" sign...

And a fun driftwood beach sign...

Happy Weekend!

What I Wore Wednesday - Preggers Edition

Last weekend I was at a yard sale and a woman asked me how far a long I was. When I told her I was due in November, this is what she said.

"Wow! You are BIG! You look like you're due a lot sooner than that!"

Oh, no she DI' INT.

Can I give some friendly advice on what NOT to say to a pregnant lady that you might see?

*DON'T say they look big. Or huge. Or anything remotely close to that. As if we don't already know that our bellies are exploding. No need to point it out. I get this a lot because I carry my babies straight out the front and look like a torpedo is shooting from my mid-section. It is almost alien-like. But please, I am aware of this and don't need to be reminded!!

*DON'T say "you have a while to go yet!". Yes, we know when we are due. And yes, it feels like we are pregnant forever. Don't rub it in.

*DON'T say things like "you look miserable", "I pity you", "I'm glad I'm not you". For heaven's sake, be positive. Even if you don't mean it.

*DON'T tell your labor horror stories. Or stories about other people's horrendous experiences. Seriously, we just don't want to hear about it right now.

*DON'T tell them that they should be glad the baby isn't here yet because, when it does, they will have their hands full and never get sleep again. Again, be positive. We will love you for it.

If all else fails and you can think of nothing else to say, just say "Can I buy you a day at the spa while I watch your kids?". This will make us veeeery, veeeery happy. :)
