What I Wore Wednesday - Preggers Edition

Last weekend I was at a yard sale and a woman asked me how far a long I was. When I told her I was due in November, this is what she said.

"Wow! You are BIG! You look like you're due a lot sooner than that!"

Oh, no she DI' INT.

Can I give some friendly advice on what NOT to say to a pregnant lady that you might see?

*DON'T say they look big. Or huge. Or anything remotely close to that. As if we don't already know that our bellies are exploding. No need to point it out. I get this a lot because I carry my babies straight out the front and look like a torpedo is shooting from my mid-section. It is almost alien-like. But please, I am aware of this and don't need to be reminded!!

*DON'T say "you have a while to go yet!". Yes, we know when we are due. And yes, it feels like we are pregnant forever. Don't rub it in.

*DON'T say things like "you look miserable", "I pity you", "I'm glad I'm not you". For heaven's sake, be positive. Even if you don't mean it.

*DON'T tell your labor horror stories. Or stories about other people's horrendous experiences. Seriously, we just don't want to hear about it right now.

*DON'T tell them that they should be glad the baby isn't here yet because, when it does, they will have their hands full and never get sleep again. Again, be positive. We will love you for it.

If all else fails and you can think of nothing else to say, just say "Can I buy you a day at the spa while I watch your kids?". This will make us veeeery, veeeery happy. :)

  7. Tactless people really need to learn to keep their mouth shut...
During my 1st pregnancy I had a woman in a grocery store tell me that I was way too big (Can I help it if I only grew to 5 feet?) and that something was wrong and that I was definitely carrying twins regardless of what the doctor said. Scared me silly.
Anyway, you just keep on looking adorable and ignore those folks. I especially love Friday's outfit! Sweet Avery is going to be just like you ~ too cute!

  8. You look tiny, you're almost done! You look incredibly stylish and happy, and I had 3 kids all the labours were short and sweet and the last one was the easiest! You look great in purple and I love the cuffed jeans!

  9. Great outfits! I totally agree with every point you made on pregnancy. Since I looked young (I was 28) and was skinny to start, I always got "you look like a pregnant teenager" (I mean, really?) and then "you must feel great because you're hardly showing" even when I had gained 30 pounds and was miserable. Oh, and when people want to touch your belly, I'm out. I can't take that.

By the way, I think you look super cute!! Good for you for not kicking that woman. :)

  10. I can't even tell you how much I got those comments when I was pregnant! I went ten days overdue and literally EVERYONE said some snarky comment about how it looked like my baby was gonna fall out on the sidewalk when I walked! It wasn't funny and i didn't appreciate the sarcasm. lol. I also carry my babies straight out in front and look huge really fast. You look adorable and glowing and are doing the most amazing thing that its possible for a human being to do...create life! That's beautiful and that lady was a moron! :)

  11. Love the post! Too funny. With my 2nd all I heard was "if you don't have that baby soon, "you'll pop" What???? Let me just say, she was born 6 days late at a whopping 9lbs 13oz. Yes, just shy of 10!! I think I know I was huge, don't remind me.

  12. Aimee, my love...you always look so incredible when you are pregnant! I don't think I'd ever classify you or your belly as "big" or "huge". Petite, cute...now those are words to use!

Now me, on the other hand...my bellies could probably have gotten awards for hugeness. ;o) You and I carry the same: straight out. But my kids tend to be big ones, making the bellies big ones. ;o)

  13. Was the woman blind? I expected you to look like a torpedo shaped blimp...you are tiny! I say just smile at the next one and say, "Well, I am just glad I have an excuse for how I look." :)

    Ok...that was mean...I wouldn't really say it!

  19. You look great (and actually I was thinking that you look really small for being due in November)!

The nicest thing someone ever said to me when I was about 9 months preggers during the hottest summer ever was when my boss's daughter said "I think you look beautiful" after he said -- "doesn't she look huge?" I love that girl! :)

I love hearing from you! Thanks for your comments! ~Aimee
