A Little About Me {And A Little About You}

Blogging is a funny thing. You get an "inside" into my life, my family, my home, my inspirations. But it's mostly just a one-way street. Sometimes it's just plain strange when I meet a stranger and they know a lot about me because they read my blog. Don't get me wrong, I've met a lot of awesome friends through my blog (mostly friends of friends) and I am so freaking flattered when someone tells me they read my blog!

Really. Flattered. (say "flattered" ten times in a row and it starts to sound really strange)

But I would love to know all of you guys too!! There have been many times when someone has sent a kind or encouraging email just when I needed it. You guys rock! Seriously.

All that to say - if you read my blog, please leave me a comment sometime if you haven't before. I'd love to know who YOU are! :)

Today I thought I'd give you a little "scoop" about me and answer some questions:

:: Introvert or Extravert?
I'm an introvert. I enjoy meeting new people, but at the end of the day, I'm shy and nervous and not comfortable being in a group of people that I don't know. I get energized by being by myself, having time to just be in my thoughts. I could be a really good fisherman. Out on the water, for days on end, just by myself.

:: When was the last time you tried something new?
I ate sushi for the first time a few weeks ago and really liked it. It's not my favorite food, but I'll try it again for sure.

:: Favorite quote?
I have many favorites and one of them is by Theodore Roosevelt. "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Sensible, encouraging, no excuses - how I like to roll.

:: What gets you excited about life?
I get the most excited about life when I feel like I'm able to use my creativity. If I feel bogged down by everyday life (preparing meals, changing diapers, cleaning the house), and I don't have a creative outlet, I can get really discouraged. I'm so thankful that God has given me an outlet where I can feel fulfilled and be someone other than a wife and mommy (although I love those roles too, don't get me wrong).

:: Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Well, let me put it this way - my husband says that I tend to "shoot, then aim" instead of "aim, then shoot". I'm not at all afraid of trying new things, but I tend to just go for it instead of thinking things through, preparing, prepping, all that boring stuff. :) All that to say, I would much rather fail at something than never trying it. Except skydiving. I want to try it, but I really, really don't want to fail at that. It would not be good.

:: Where do you find inspiration?
I get really inspired when I'm around people who are genuinely themselves and are passionate about what they do. Other people's blogs, books, magazines, the ocean, traveling - these all inspire me too.

:: What are your favorite simple pleasures?
Having someone else cook dinner, my kids falling asleep while I'm holding them, thrift store shopping, foot rubs, clean floors, putting my kids to bed for the night, dates with hub, lunches with my sister at the coffee shop, a quiet house and a loud, happy house.

Ok, so now it's your turn!

What is your favorite simple pleasure?

I want to know!

  1. One of my favorite simple pleasures is eating lunch on the couch watching one of my shows. I love to just relax and get a break in the middle of the day with no worries. It makes it so much easier now that both my kids are in school.

  2. One of my simple pleasures is sitting on our swing on the patio with my husband, talking and listening to the birds settle for the night.

  3. The cup of tea my husband brings to me just before he sets off for work, plus a kiss!

  4. You mentioned Theodore Roosevelt; my favorite thing this summer's been reading a biography of him, finding out he was one of the best American authors ever; and reading some of his excellent work!

  5. My simple pleasures are taking a bath with a good book, putting my kids to bed at night, my hubby calling me "sweet cakes" and curling up on the couch to watch TV after a long day of being mommy. Jodi G.

  7. This post is so true. I saw you on Saturday, browsing around at blue ball days. I was thinking, I "know" her and love reading your blog, but she has no clue who I am. I was going to talk to you but a "customer" was paying, and didn't get a chance to introduce myself...
My simple pleasure is kissing my sleeping babies, bright colorful coffee mugs, and snuggling with my girls/husband.

  8. Massages, spending time with my husband, swimming with my kids, brownies, reading a good book, watching a good movie, having the windows open on a cool day...to name a few! I am so with you on the introvert thing. I do not like big crowds, but love to spend time with my family or close friends.

  9. I'm Katherine, I live on the south coast of England with my man and 2 crazy boys. Love the blogging world, but have yet to create my own. I love finding junk and painting it, photography, scrapbooking, creating in the kitchen and anything that gets my creative streak going. Love reading your blog and seeing your great outfits!

  10. Hi Aimee,
I'm Dawn and I really enjoy your blog - your creativity, your obvious love of God, family and the real things. My simple pleasures are: tunneling through Ben & Jerry's ice cream with my husband once the kids have gone off to sleep, back rubs, sitting beneath a mimosa tree on a hot day with a gentle breeze, watching my children sleep, planting flowers, holding my childrens' hands and laughing until my cheeks hurt, just to name a few. Thanks for all you do!

  11. Hi, I'm Beth - I'm a city dweller in Baltimore but I grew up in the country. I'm creative, I'm too busy to let it show sometimes, a simple pleasure is reading and drinking coffee and I prefer to have my coffee with my husband whenever possible. Especially if he makes it - it tastes so much better! I'm an on-line introvert-I think that oddly enough it shows up more online than in person. If I tell someone I've met that I am shy they think I'm nuts. But I am, on the inside, and it's as hard to introduce myself to someone online as it is in person. Until I get started. :) Thanks for sharing your life.

  12. Yes, this whole blog world is strange that we don't MEET in person. Just yesterday a sweet girl approached me at a wedding and said, "My mom reads your blog but she's afraid to tell you because she's not sure it is OK for her to see." Really? It is public!

Anyway, my simple pleasure.... I love it when someone says a simiple "thank you"

  14. I've been reading your blog for a while but I don't know if I've ever commented. We were both pregnant at the same time and had our baby girls right around the same time. I've loved your projects and paintings. I love coming to your blog to get inspired!

A simple pleasure for me is when I get to "sleep in" (ha) and hang out with my hubby and baby in our pjs on Saturday mornings. I wish every day could start that way!

  18. I just started reading your blog, and I love reading what you have to say! We must live pretty close because I go to the New Holland Coffee Shop at times. I love being crafty and creative, I also feel like it is something I need to do to continue to be who God has created me to be (along with being a wife and momma)! I wish I knew how you find the time to shop and craft with three kiddos, I have three also but they are all 2 and under! (maybe thats why I have no time!) Blessings to you, keep using your gifts to honor the Lord!

  19. You "know" me only from some of the comments I've left before . . . and one of the reasons I've left them is to try to avoid some of that awkwardness of the blogging world should we ever {very possibly} meet IRL. One of my simple pleasures is having the house clean and sitting down to read either to myself or stories to my children with a fresh, new stack of books. Off to read to them now (even tho the house isn't clean!).

  20. Actually, you and I are a lot alike.. as I was reading your answers, I thought, "yep, that's the way I'dda answered that one."
One difference: I have more than one favorite quote.
1-"All shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well" -St. Julian of Norwich
2-Character is who you are/how you act when there is no one around to impress. -anon.

I have been readin your blog sporadically for a long time. I found you from Baileyandme2. :)

My Simple Pleasure? My nightly cup of tea with a bit of sugar and a splash of cream. Seriously, I might be having an affair with my Starbucks coffee mug! My other simple pleasure is my boys. But it is not so simple and not nearly all pleaasure. . .

I have been "out of the office" when it comes to blogging but am trying to come back. read at your own risk. :)

  22. O yes! I the interest of full disclosure, I am one of your many copycats. Our church built a new facility. I volunteered to decorate the nursery and got the job. Yes, You have a pretty good idea what it looks like. One day soon I will post picts. I have gotten TONS of compliments from EVERYONE - even the older men at church. I wish I had a dime for everytime I said :well, thank you but the idea was not original with me..." We could go for coffee and have cash leftover!!!

  24. I found your blog this summer and love reading it because your creativity is not only amazing but you make it all so practical. Your style is my fave and I hope my house looks as cute as yours when I have one! And as a fellow bargain shopper, I love your What I Wore Wednesdays too.

My simple pleasures would be chai, snail mail, rainy days, anything that makes me laugh, the smell of fresh laundry, ice cream (obsessed with turkey hill double dunker right now), ducks, sunshine and good books.

  25. I'm still lovin your blog! Keep it up! One of my simple pleasures are heading for the woods with my camera, a good book, and my trusty binocs - and yes, all by myself. Also walking down to the pond with the boys & watching the looks of joy on their faces as they reel in a big bass.
Roosevelt also wrote one of my favorite quotes; "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

You've inspired me so much with your blog that I created one too. It's still a little boring with not much on but I'm looking forward to meeting people with similar interests. Thanks for sharing!

  26. Hi!
I think I found you through Janelle once upon a time! I don't usually have time to comment but love reading your blog and other's!! I love your creativity and style...we enjoy a lot of the same things! :))
Weird story but I saw you at Petra once (not sure if you go there)but would have died before I introduced myself...feels weird! Ha! Anyway, thanks for all your inspiration!

  27. I've been reading your blog since Layla featured your nursery on TLC. I liked it right away because I felt like we were kindred spirits. We have similar style, both like to pay next to nothing (or better yet NOTHING!) for something and make it fabulous, we're both Christians, my daughter is the same age as Avery and just started half day kindergarten, and my son is the same age as Jack (I don't have a 3rd though, sorry Violet!).
My simple pleasures are checking my favorite blogs after the kids go to bed (I only check 4 and you are in good company with Layla and Miss Mustard Seed as 2 of the others), gardening, snuggling with my kids when they'll hold still long enough, shopping for deals at consignment shops, HomeGoods, and the Pottery Barn outlet, and reading This Old House and BHG magazines.
Thanks for sharing your life. I know we're not "friends", but I like to know there are others out there with similar interests to mine. My close friends don't share my style, and have no interest in wandering around an antique mall looking at "old junk". Good thing I'm an introvert and don't mind time alone. ;)

  28. Hi Aimee!
I'm just getting caught up on your blog- one of my favorite simple pleasures is to be sitting in a coffee shop with my hubs reading our books or playing a game...or in a park with our daughter having a picnic! Thanks for always being so inspiring! Your blog makes me happy!
ps. glad you all did not have major damage from Irene!

  29. So I'm a little late, but I started following your blog after seeing your art a the coffee shop in town. (In my best Oprah voice) Looove it!! My name is Teresa Crego and I too live in NH...and to make it even more interesting I saw you at Back to School night and I wanted to say hello and introduce myself, but was pulled in another direction. I hope to see you around town and hope you don't mine me stalking, I mean following, you on your blog. I lack a creative eye, but your projects have really made me think lately about how I can turn a piece that I already own into something great. THANKS!!!!
