Family Room Wall Color

I started to think about painting the family room a different color several months ago, but I wasn't sure what color I wanted to use. Until I saw Layla's blog post at The Lettered Cottage, and then I knew the direction I wanted to head in.

The new paint color is Benjamin Moore Gray Owl and it is awesome. It's mostly very light gray with a little bit of blue, depending on the light.

Since I was painting the walls anyway, I decide to do some re-decorating while I was at it (of course). I created this ocean-inspired painting using old barn wood that hubs put together for me. And I LOVE it. I'm keeping it up for the summer...maybe longer.

So, there you have it! Thanks to Layla I am LOVING my summery family room!

If you want to see more of my house, check out the Home Made Lovely blog today for a tour. I was so honored that Heather asked to feature my home today!

Happy Weekend!

  14. I just found you & I'm soooo happy I did:) Love your designs, Aimee. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful & effortless (I know the time/elbow grease that goes into it) but it all comes together so amazingly! I was so inspired by your sign in the kitchen (cafe&bakery) that I made my own this morning. Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
    Blessings,

  35. Aimee: I love the Gray Owl paint. Is it the full strenth Gray Owl or did you lighten it at all? I noticed that a lot of people lighten the Gray Owl. Just wondering. I'm thinking of painting my kitchen in Gray Owl. My concern is it may be too dark but on the other hand, I think lighten it by 50% which is what a lot of people do, is too light. Let me know. Thank you.

    1. It is the full-strength Gray Owl. If it were lightened by 50%, if would be super pale. I really like how it looks full strength. The room doesn't get a lot of natural light and it doesn't look dark at all. You could always first try a section at full strength and get it lightened if it looks too dark. Good luck!!

    2. thanks Aimee. One more question: did you use flat, eggshell, or semi-gloss? I'm going to paint my kitchen and can't decide on the finish for the paint.
      Thank you so much!

    3. I always use eggshell or satin on my walls. You definitely don't want to use flat as it is very hard to wipe clean. Hope this helps!

I believe that you simply could do with some percent to power the message house a bit, however instead of that, this is fantastic blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.
