Family Room Fluffing

I was in the mood to do some fluffing in the family room this week. I sewed some simple striped pillows for the couch. Like I said before, I'm a little obsessed with stripes, so that would be why I made them!

I looked for striped fabric but couldn't find exactly what I wanted. So I bought some cheap brown and white cotton fabric and just sewed strips of fabric together. And I'm really happy with how they turned out!

The other white pillows I made from hand towels from Target that I just sewed together. I created a stencil out of heavy paper and used craft paint to paint the number "5" on the pillow.

Pillows are such a fun way to add graphics, texture, and color to a room!

I bought a simple $2.99 white drum shade at Christmas Tree Shoppes to replace a broken shade, and it looked a little bit bare. So I hot glued a vintage fabric measuring tape (bought at a yard sale) to the top and bottom of the shade.

And I bought this orange-y faux-leather ottoman from Goodwill for around $3 and decided to make a slipcover for it.

And I love how it turned out! I used white cotton duck fabric and it was actually really simple to make. The pleats on the bottom were the hardest part. Although it wasn't really hard - just time-consuming.

I'm planning on making a slipcover for the floral chair this winter. I'm kind of excited but mostly terrified about making it. I'm really not an experienced seamstress, so we'll see how it turns out!

Have a great weekend friends!!

  2. I have a rattan-type ottoman on my porch that is coming unraveled and I can't afford to replace it. You have inspired me to try the slip-cover idea!

  4. Love your fluffed up family room!I'll see how your chair cover goes before I attempt my couch cover. Maybe I can get some tips... When I view your pics I'm always peering at any background "points of interest" - your house just looks so tasteful! Thanks for sharing!

  5. As usual Aimee, these are all great! Do you use pillow forms to fill your cases, or do you use stuffing?

  8. Wow, you did a great job on that ottoman. I too want to slipcover a similar size chair and I too am terrified. If you announce it on the blog when you are starting then maybe I can tag along and do mine at the same time. Inspiration loves company!

  9. I love the lamp shade! I think you are pretty good at sewing, judging by the cover for the ottoman. I'm usually not brave enough to try or think it looks like too much work..
