Jack's Bedroom

I haven't shown pictures of Jack's room for a while, and I made a few changes, so I thought I'd give you a little peek.

I gave his room a makeover when I was about 5 or 6 months pregnant with Violet. It was time for him to have a big-boy room, and I had a great time working on it. I still love the checkerboard pattern that I painted on the floor, although it was a painstakingly annoying process! Especially considering my pregnant belly and all the bending-over that was involved. But as you know, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to make a room look cute!

As you can see, I went with a nautical theme for the room. I made the boat that's hanging above the headboard out of branches, scraps of dropcloth, and twine. Really easy and cheap art for the wall.

Pretty much everything in the room was second-hand (the bed, dresser, night stand) or made by us, so the project was really inexpensive.

I painted the little wall where the closet is with chalkboard paint and the kids love using it. This is Jack's little play corner, although he doesn't play in his room much. It's all the way upstairs and too far away from the action of the rest of the family.

So there's a little peek into one corner of our house. I love being nosy and checking out other people's homes (confession: I'm pretty much obsessed with it), and I'm sure I'm not alone!

Happy Wednesday friends! It's MAY!!! Summer is just around the corner! I can smell it when I walk outside my door. Aaaaahhh.

  1. I really love what you did in here. Perfect use of chalkboard paint, in my opinion. Where did you get the ceiling light fixture? I like that and am keeping an eye out for something creative in my kitchen. Props for that homemade boat! Love it!

    1. We bought the ceiling light fixture from Ikea. It was really affordable and I love how it looks in the room!

  2. Love the room! I think I will steal the sailboat idea someday! I too,am quite obsessed with checking out all corners of people's homes. Keep sharing yours!

  3. This room is gorgeous. Very vibrant and fun!! The boat on the wall is precious!!

  4. I checked out your son's room again..I admit that I'm gonna steal some of your great ideas.. my youngest wants an ocean themed bedroom(which I was quite impressed with)I remembered that sailboat you made and thought I'd give it a shot.. and found an old fish basket in the antique mall I want to use. Feel like I'm copy catting here but can't help myself! Love your ideas! Thanks!

I love hearing from you! Thanks for your comments! ~Aimee
