Because everyone likes a good before/after picture, here is what the kitchen looked like when we moved in 7 years ago. Think lots and lots of dark paneling and a terrible layout!
During renovation...this is pretty much what it looked like when Avery was born. I was kitchen-less for the whole summer, since hubs was doing the renovations himself in his spare time. It was not fun, but we managed to survive as we always do.
We painted the kitchen walls dark red 7 years ago when we first renovated it, and it stayed that way until a few weeks ago when I couldn't take the dark walls anymore. It was time to lighten it up.
And here's what it looks like now...
I painted the "Cafe & Bakery" sign using a scrap piece of wood. Hubs thought that maybe the sign would motivate me to do more cooking and baking. Unfortunately, he was wrong. Poor guy.
Proof that I do indeed bake...every once in a while!
I sewed a couple of pillows out of Ikea dishcloths, and I used stencils and fabric paint to do the lettering. The kids love sitting on this window seat while I'm getting dinner ready. I sewed the cushion cover using a tablecloth I found at Target.
Canisters from Goodwill that I painted chalkboard labels onto...super easy & functional.
So that's the tour of my much-improved kitchen. And I am so happy now when I walk in! Because the walls are now neutral, I can add other colors as an accent, which I couldn't do before.
And can I just say, I LOVE this wall color. It's Allen+Roth from Lowes and it's called Cobblestone.
Aimee, I LOVE IT!

ReplyDeletethat blue striped dishtowel you made a pillow out of, i have those 4 towels from ikea in my kitchen and just love them. great idea to make pillows out of words on other things... that inspired me. pillows with words are always $$$.
also, you painted that spoon? i was eyeing it from the first pic. God sure blessed you with a creative talent. keep sharing your great work-- i just love your blog! especially this kind of post.
enjoy your new space....
Love it!!! Thanks for the inspiration today!
ReplyDeleteKitchens look a lot better with a kitchen island. It promotes more space for displays and for cooking. Another thing to love about it is if you have a fruit display on it, it would look even cuter. And you won’t have to look deeper in the kitchen, or in the pantry, if you would like an apple because it is right in the middle.
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful!!! Thanks so much for sharing! Don't you wish our kitchens stayed that clean all of the time?! I know mine at least never looks that good for more than 5 minutes, but those 5 minutes are still worth the effort! ;)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where you got those herb boxes hanging on the wall? The kitchen looks cottage and cozy, so lovely.
ReplyDeleteSherry
I just hung the herb boxes on small nails. The boxes came with the hangers.
DeleteThis is beautiful all of it! What color are your cabinets, yellow with a glaze? It's a nice change from typical white!
ReplyDeleteI like that you kept the color of the cabinets. It really went well with the new wall colors. I particularly like the chalkboard labels, as well as the cafe & bakery sign by the window. That window seat is really a nice touch.

Your kitchen became even more fascinating after the makeover. The color of the wall made the area more alluring. Likewise, the new flooring made the entire kitchen look bigger. Do you see the magic there? :) Everything looks clean, fresh, and well-organized. Great job on this one!
